Default [FIXED] Goaning noise from Kenmore Dishwasher

I have a Kenmore Elite Dishwasher Model 665-16469300 that started to develop a groaning noise during the wash cycle. I was able to read a couple of posts on this forum that links the problem to the food chopper. I was able to remove the screen etc right up to the Foreign Object Protector. I removed the screw that is supposed to lock down the Copper Inlet Protector, but this protector won't come off. I don't want to break the cover if its not supposed to come off, but I wanted to check the chopper blades to make sure the groaning noise is not from there. I removed a couple of toothpicks and a rusted nut from the area around the inlet to the chopper. I think there maybe more stuff around the chopper, but how do I expose the chopper for this unit?

Thanks.

This model is similar to yours:

Do you see the little notch at the very top of #8? Get a flathead screwdriver and tap that towards the right, then it will come off, you may need to use a little bit of force, but don't worry you won't break it.

Default Kenmore Elite now DEAD ! Please Help !

After several weeks of running with a groan, the unit finally stops working. I turned the unit on to wash, the lights come on, but the motor does not run. Is the main motor the suspect ? Can this be replaced by a do-it -yourself like me?
Thanks.
The Model is Elite 665-16469300.

Yes, its likely your sump/motor assembly thats bad.

Part#8268422
Sump and motor assembly

Here is a free repair manual, it will show you how to change it:
Point Voyager Dishwasher Just click on the .pdf icon then let it download for a minute or 2.

Its the exact same model as yours.

Or you can get the motor assembly alone, abit more work to install, but cheaper.

Here's the motor assembly for your model you can order:
Manufacturer's Number: 8534942

8534942

If you want to order the sump/motor assembly and ship it to Canada here's our other affiliate that you can order it from:

Before buying the parts, I need some more help. I think I should get the motor assembly out first to make sure its a job that I can handle. Is it any easier if I remove the whole unit from under the counter so that I can lay it down ? Remove the front door ? Any step by step instruction ? If there is something that can help me along - better that me screwing things up.
Thanks.

Yes,

Here's the repair manual for your model:
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/52521bdbd0ef763c85256cbc00520548/$FILE/8178022.pdf

Page 17 Read 1-4 where it says this:

SERVICING COMPONENTS INSIDE THE WASH TUB
Removing the Inner Feed Tube and
Lower Spray Arm

Page 17 Fig. 3.7 shows how to remove your outer door panel
On your model you just remove the outer door panel by removing all those hex screws on the inner door. Then that panel slides up and out.

Then on Page 21 it starts to get into detail of how to access the rest where it says this:
Accessing Components of the Sump Assembly

Thanks again. Pump and motor assembly out ! I had to do I the hard way though. I removed the dishwasher and turned it sideways for better access. Unless you know where things are, its difficult to do it with the washer installed. Now that the pump and motor assembly is out is there any test or anyway I could check the motor by itself. I removed the chopper to see if I could turn the motor shaft - I couldn't - should I ? Also anyway to check with the ohm meter - I see three pin connector.
I'll order the assembly tomorrow.

Cheers.

I just noticed that the main seal around the assembly has a few gooves - does the bowl fit in between one of these grooves ? I fail to take note when I pushed the assebly out. Thanks.

Yes, it should turn freely. You will definitely need a new pump/motor assembly.

You need to fit that seal around the outer lip of the pump, groved sides pointing down, then it pushes down in place.
