Default evenheat series 90 plus intermittent heat

hey jake. awesome info on this site ! i have a kenmore electric evenheat 90 series plus dryer that only heats up during the initial start up of the machine. element glows for about 35 seconds, shuts off, then doesnt come back on for the rest of the cycle. i only use the timed dry selection on the dryer. i removed the duct, blower housing, element and cleaned all the lint with a vacuum. (was lots and lots of lint!). i did not reconnect the duct in the rear. i ran it a few times with the blower housing off, didnt change anything. removed and cleaned and tested the thermistor, element, hi-limit, thermal fuse...all seemed to ohm OK. the thermistor ohmed at around 1500 before i cleaned it..might have been a bad reading...after it was cleaned, it doesnt ohm, but the one prong is reading 1.6 volts...(?????). when the element does not heat up, the bottom red wire reads 124 volts, the top red/white wire reads 0-48 volts. the top red/whit wire seems to run directly to the heater relay. my questions are....
would the thermistor on the blower housing affect the on/off of the element? should i replace it?
should i test the heater relay?
do you think the hi-limit or thermal fuse may be faulty and not telling the element to turn back on?
thanks for your help ! i have read the post about the evenheat problems with the control boards burning...and holding the pts button down....i dont have this problem.(not yet anyway)...

Hi mas,

So after the glow igniter glows orange does the gas come out and start the flame, or does the igniter quit glowing with no gas/flame?

Its possibly either the heater relay or the gas coils.

Whats the model# of your dryer? Its located inside the door.

Jake

Ahh, ok, don't know what I was thinking it was gas.

Ok, lets first swap the motor & heat relay's they are the same identical part#.

On your model they are #36 & #41 here:
http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_pn...0183-00001.png

Then plug your dryer back in and see if the element stays on longer, if it does, then you found the problem.

Here's the motor & heater relay for your model you can order:
Manufacturer's Number: 3405281

You don't ohm the thermistor for continuity like the thermal fuse and thermal cut-off, you check resistance on it per the ambient temperature, heres's the chart for it:

Let me know what you find.

ok...i swapped the motor relay with the heater relay....no change.
there is continuity between the red/white wire (which i mentioned before as having 0 voltage) and the red wire at the heater control relay. what should i test next? i turned the dryer on, heater warmed up for 35 seconds, heater shut off, never came back on....

thanks,

mark

jake, i am reading 1538 ohms at the thermistor on the blower housing.(with dryer unplugged). is a thermistor the same thing as a cycling thermostat?
i have a whirpool LER5636KQ8 in the basement with a fried motor. does this dryer have a thermistor that i can swap with my kenmore?
does the thermistor tell the heater when to turn back on?
im gonna try to answer my own question while i wait for your answer.

thanks !

Yes, but with a thermistor you can't ohm it for continuity like you can with a cycling thermostat.

Go over Jeff's page here on the even heat issues, its very detailed:
http://www.applianceaid.com/evenheat.html

Here's our main thread on this issue here:
[FIXED] Another Kenmore Dryer problem

Here's the thermistor for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 8577274

Here's the control board for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 8546229

If you purchase parts from our links here and you install them and it doesn't fix the problem, you have a 30 day full refund.

Unfortunately, your other dryer model doesn't match the thermistor for this one, that one uses a cycling thermostat.
Here's the cycling thermostat for your LER5636KQ8 model:
Manufacturer's Number: 3387134
3387134

ok, thats weird, I'm not sure why its cycling with the blower housing off, that makes no sense to me.

If your not getting the full 48v then its the control board thats bad.
