Greetings,
We just got a new Kenmore 800 Series Dryer, 110.6982*, yesterday, replacing an old Kenmore that came with the house 15 years ago. With great excitement we've tried our first loads on the AutoSense mode and in every case they've come out still damp. The lint filter is clean as is the exhaust vent. I've tried experimenting a bit and have noticed the following things. All of the temperature control settings appear to result in different temperatures. Timer mode seems to work fine. When using AutoSense set to Normal Dry and the Temperature Control set to Cotton / Towels / High, the Auto Cycle for a load of wet towels completed in 13.5 minutes (with only slightly less wet towels). After running on Timer for an additional 30 minutes, the towels were dry. If Wrinkle Guard is turned OFF, the machine will not run with the AutoSense set to "More Dry", the dryer beeps three times and shuts off. Set at "More Dry" if Wrinkle Guard is turned ON, the machine runs for about 15 seconds, beeps three times and shuts off. This same behavior occurs anytime the AutoSense dial is set to the left of a detent I feel between "Normal Dry" and "More Dry". With the dial set to the right of this detent, it runs, but quickly and without drying the load. I ran the "Damp Dry Test" I found at the applianceaid.com page on EvenHeat problems. The machine passed the test. I also ran the "Factory Test" I found on that same page. The machine passed that test too, including the test of the moisture sensor (using a moistened finger on the sensor). I did not test anything further than that. I'm thinking that if there's something wrong with my day-old dryer, Sears should be fixing it. However, I did want to confirm that what I'm experiencing sounds more like a machine problem than an operator problem before I try calling them in. Any information or advice you can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks. |

Hi,
Yes, definitely have Sears come out for free to see whats going on. Usually when it takes longer to dry loads its a ventilation issue where the vent goes to the outside of your house. You can try a load without the vent connected and see if there is a difference, just open some windows in your laundry room to let the heat escape if its inside your house and not in your garage. I'll double check the venting.
The curious part to me is the inability to select "More Dry" on AutoSense. Since the machine isn't even running at the time, it seems as if something other than venting wrong. |

Yes, its possible you may have a defective part in your dryer causing it, thats why its very important to get it taken care of under warranty while its new, and remember you have a 30 day exchange or refund on your new dryer, if you don't want it fixed, lots of customers feel its unnecessary to have a brand new dryer fixed right off the bat and they exchange it and everything is fine after that.
Its happened to me as well. I bought a brand new JVC television and got it home, and when I turned it on, I heard a big POP-SOUND, and it died. Took it back to the store the next day, they gave me another new one, and its been working perfect since 1990, and still works great today, no repairs ever needed. ![]() Jake
