[FIXED] Kenmore Elite Ice Maker and Ice Dispenser not working
I have a Kenmore Elite side-by-side, model 10653706201. A couple days ago the ice dispenser/auger on the door stopped working. The water dispenser is fine. However, as I started to look into it this morning, I realized this morning that the ice maker also has stopped making ice, (almost certainly at the same time), but we did not notice as we were taking ice from the ice bin for the past day and just realized that is was not refilling.
The fill tube to the ice maker does not appear to be clogged and when I removed the ice maker, there was ice in it that had not been ejected. Since I manually removed the ice from the ice maker and and put it back in the freezer, it still isn't making ice and has not filled with water. The ice maker is on/red light is flashing.
Is the ice maker broken and would that also cause the ice dispenser/auger not to run, or is it something else?
Thx!
---Larry

One correction
The icemaker IS filling with water since I removed/reinstalled it...but it has not ejected any ice.

Hi,
For the ice dispenser problem, Sounds like the plastic pins thats on the water/ice dispenser support have broken.
You would need to unsnap(use a flathead screwdriver in the 2 little slots underneath the bottom frame piece to unsnap it) your front dispenser frame#23 here:

Then look at your support bracket#15 to see if the little plastic pins are broken that hold your ice and water dispenser switches in place#14.
Here is the one for your model, in case you need to order it:
Manufacturer part number 2180226 is RepairClinic item number 449582
2180226
For the ice maker issue, whenever ice is in the ice maker tray and it just won't eject it, its always a bad ice maker causing it.
Here's the cheapest ice maker I found for your model you can order:
Complete icemaker assembly

Thanks for the quick reply....
You were spot-on with the ice dispenser...the plastic pins are broke, but the contact still operates it...I'll order the part.
I'll watch the ice maker over the next day or two...while I know it is not impossible, I am finding it unlikely that it stopped making ice us at the same time that the plastic pins on the bracket broke. Is there anything with the contact that activates the dispenser that if it fell, got wet, etc. could cause the ice maker to short out or not function?
Could just be (bad) dumb luck...just checking on any possible explanation.
If I need a new ice maker, is the one you provided as good as any others? Don't mind paying a bit more for better quality (if that exists).
Thx again!

Good job finding the plastic pins were broken on the support bracket.

Nope, thats highly unlikely, just ironic that the ice maker stopped working at the same time the ice dispenser did.

Yes, its brand new, not reconditioned, and the price is cheaper than all the other ones I've seen online.
And all parts your order through our site have 30 days for A FULL REFUND, installed or not, when you ship it back.

Thx again...
Appreciate the info Jake...I think the icemaker is ok...looks like it dumped some...it has never been that fast (Accelerice must be relative). Someone must have grabbed some cubes out of the bin or thrown out a bunch that was stuck together.
I forgot to mention that the front panel on my model actually has 2 screws at the bottom that hold it on...they are under the removable tray below the water/ice dispenser. They aren't in the parts diagrams, but in case someone else asks you about something where the front panel needs to be removed. If they tried to pry it off vs. taking out the screws, they would crack it.
Thx again...especially getting back to me on a weekend!

Ok, sounds good Larry, yes some models have the 2 screws that can be seen once you remove the dispenser tray.

Looks like the ice maker is still suspect
I ordered the ice maker you recommended this morning. Last night after noticing that there seemed to be no new ice yesterday I tested the optics and they seem to be fine (solid red light when unobstructed and blinking when blocked...followed the other date you posted).
I then pulled the ice maker out and popped-out the ice that was in it, putting it back in and power-cycling the fridge. I watched as the ice maker filled with water and the arm that ejects the ice rotated, but this morning no new ice had dropped. I am presuming that there is something wrong with it that is intermittently (but increasingly) not triggering it to drop the ice.
Thx again!

All fixed....
Jake,
The bracket that holds the ice dispenser contact and the new ice maker came while I was out of town this week. Installed both when I returned home today and the fridge is back to normal/making ice again and dispensing it through the door. Thx for your help identifying the problem and parts...much appreciated!
