Default Kenmore 80 series timer not advancing

I have 2 problems. The first one is the Timer doesn't advance when you put the dryer on Auto Moisture Sensing or Timed Dry. I haven't tried Air Dry yet. This just started recently. It heats great and gets the clothes dry but it will run all night if you don't watch it.

The second problem is a minor one in which we have lived with for about 2 yrs. The door switch doesn't work anymore. The light doesn't come on when you open the door and the thing keeps spinning. This was the only problem we had until about a week ago and then the timer thing started. The dryer is about 8yrs old.

I am assuming the timer is bad but just wanted to make sure before I spent the money on the part. I would also like to fix the door switch if it's not too much trouble to replace.

Kenmore 80 series

Thanks for any and all help. J

Yes, the timer is bad if it doesn't advance in both the auto-dry and timed dry cycles, but do try the air to see if it does, and if it does then its possibly the control board.

Here's the timer for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 3976576

Here's the control board for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 8558178

Now when you open the door does the dryer stop? If not then its definitely a bad door switch.

Here's the door switch for your dryer:
Manufacturer's Number: 3406107

3406107

Its easy to get to the door switch, here's a help link to show you, read paragraph 2 here:
