Default Clutch or gearcase?

110.92273100 SER#CB4723413 ---purchased 1-28-93

Wife was washing and called me down. Washer was in spin cycle making a terrible loud ratcheting sound.

Turned it on again and watched tub, it would only move a few inches, pause then move alittle more, still sounding god awful.

Shut it down, tore it down, popped pump/motor assembly from gearcase.

Couplers look good, shaft holes not wobbled out, holes in black rubber connector look like new, no broken "pins" on 3 fingered couplers.

Looking around noticed this debris on top on gearcase under clutch
assembly.

Next, I had wife watch agitator and tub while I spun gearcase. after many turns it agitated back and forth.

However spinning in opposite direction I finally got tub to spin some, then the shaft seemed to slip and ratchet like it wanted to spin tub but wasnt grabbing the shaft or whatever to get a good bite. it became extremly hard to move tub with my hand power. Finnaly after enough turns the tub resumed movement to move a few inches then it was tough to move it again.

So Jake, am i looking at new brake and drive tube, cluctch, gearcase or all of the above?

Thanks, Tom

Yup,

Looks like you will need a new gearcase, basket drive/clutch assembly. With the age of it, it would be advisable to save your money for a new washer, as all the parts to fix it would come almost to the price of a new washer alone.

Ok,

gearcase: $160
brake/basketdrive: $115
clutch: $35
===================
total: $310.....

So, everything that's listed above would be all that's needed to repair.....not one or the other. I wouldn't know if one or all would need replacing I'd just do 'em all.

I'm assumming mise well replace all of the above OR put $310 to new machine....

The wife's gonna love you Jake...

Everytime a appliance breaks down I've managed to save it, but $310 is too much for a 16yr old machine...

Thanks, again for your help sir.

Yup Tom,

After about 10 years old, I never recommend investing that kind of money into it.

As other parts are wearing as well.
