Default [FIXED] Kenmore 665.13832K600 Upper Spray Arms not Spinning

Dear Forum Members and fellow DIY'ers,

I have a Kenmore 665.13832K600 dishwasher that is approximately 3 years old.

The upper arms are no longer spinning on the unit. I know this because I placed them at 12 o'clock and started running a cycle. Although water was dripping from them, the arms remained in that position.

Thinking the may be a clog I removed the lower spay arm assembly and soil accumulator to clear the trap under it. I removed some debris but nothing that seemed like it should reduce water pressure.

I tried to follow the instructions to clean the chopper found in the POINT VOYAGER DISHWASHER repair manual however my unit will not let me lift the inlet protector out, nor did it have the debris protector listed in the previous step. Could this be a Kenmore model difference in the manual?

Am I barking up the wrong tree here? What else could be causing the upper two arm not to rotate?

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

Here's the parts diagram of your sump assembly:

What part can't you remove?

Sounds like you'll need a new motor assembly or sump/motor assembly as they have had issues with the motor impeller stripping thus reducing the water flow to the top spray arms.

This thread explians about it:
[FIXED] Default 665 Chopper Assembly - Update #2

Here's the motor for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 8534942

8534942

Or you can get the complete pump/motor assembly - Part#8572615

Jake, Thanks for the quick reply!

I cannot remove part #8 ...yes I removed the screw part #7

It seems to almost welded on. Is there something I am doing wrong? Something else I need to remove first?

Anyone? I've tried and tried and still cannot get the inlet protector off. Must be something I'm doing wrong, or not doing.

Thanks again

Ok,

Look on the middle top of your chopper cover#8, see that raised notch? I usually get my flathead screwdriver and tap that raised notch to the right, then the cover comes off.

Default almost there??

I tapped the raised notch and it broke off! …I didn’t tap too hard.

But now sure it was meant to come off, I pried it loose. It seemed to be glue there by what appeared to be hardened soap residue.

When I removed it inlet protector, I found that the cutter blade lying there along with a retaining ring and a little piece of the white plastic shaft. I pulled at the screen and the rest of the assembly fell apart.

What could have caused this? Could it have been the missing “foreign objects protector” (figure 3-21)? I don’t see this part on the sump parts diagram.

Also, the screen was very clogged. I surprised any water passed through it. I had the same calcified material that seemed to glue the inlet protector on. Any clue what would cause this? Perhaps the chopper had been off a while; the wife says this is a problem that has slowly gotten worse.

I will be purchasing a new chopper assembly, is there anything else I should look for?

Thanks for your help.... Priceless.

Yup, seen that same thing happen a few times myself. You will definitely need the new chopper assembly, and its good to replace the black rubber flapper check valve thats next to it as well, it just pulls up with a pair of needle nose pliers.
