Default Microwave #665.6061200

Our over the range microwave(Kenmore) just started making a loud continuess grunting noise. It is not a grinding noise. It sounds like something is stuck. The clock, light, and everything else seem to be working

The turntable spins, but very very slow.

I took the bottom panel off and took the turntable motor out, plugged it back in and turned it on, and it still made the noise, but it was coming from inside, and not the motor.

I am not sure if it still heats. I do not want to run it for more than a few seconds, I am affraid it might blow up..lol

Any help on this ?

Ty

I Took the face plate off( Number/start control ). to get a better look inside.

The sound is coming from the top right corner of this model. According to the tech sheet i have for it, it looks and sounds like it is the " Magnetron Themostat ". I don't know, I'm not the expert, but the sound is coming from that area.

Is this an expensive fix?

Can I buy the part and possibly fix it myself ?

Where can i buy the part at ?

Hi,

I don't work on Microwaves, but I'll ask TechnicianBrian if he can assist you.

Based on your description and the area of the noise, I would suspect either the high voltage diode has failed, and/or the magnetron. If you attempt to cook something, the unit is most likely not heating anymore, or heating intermittantly. The repair isn't difficult, but does take some time and assistance as the unit needs to come off the wall and the cover removed. The magnetron can be expensive to replace, but they are often times covered by a 5 year warranty so if the unit is young enough, you may want to call for service. Parts can be purchased online and locally from many sources if you go at it yourself.
