Default Kenmore Elite Moans Throughout Dishwashing

Jake,

I have a 8 year old Kenmore Elite 665.16919001 which now makes the noise attached. I'm guessing it's some sort of motor issue. I'm hoping it's fixable. The darn dishwasher has been used nearly every day for these 8 years.. but so I suspect it's getting 'old'.

The other issue I've noticed for a long time is that the whole cycle to wash dishes takes way longer than the minute counter says on the front panel. Perhaps that's a thermostat issue?

Anyway, any help you can provide will be much much appreciated!

Thanks,

David

Thanks,

I heard the noise, but does it do this noise when it first starts? Or after it fills with water? I didn't hear any water splashing in that noise.

The noise is constant from when the dishwasher is first turned on until it completes washing...

The dishes get wet, dishwash quality has gotten progressively worse on the top rack.. I noticed a lot of food debris in the windmill thing under the top rack, so I cleaned it out..

I would have included a bigger soundbyte but the system here limited the file size.

Ok, then its your wash motor thats bad.

Here's the cheapest price I found on your wash motor assembly:
Manufacturer's Number: 8534942

8534942

The manufacturer has replaced part number 8268422 with this item, part number W10239405. Manufacturer part number W10239405 is RepairClinic item number 1515006.
W10239405

Here's the repair manual for your model:
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/52521bdbd0ef763c85256cbc00520548/$FILE/8178022.pdf

Page 17 Read 1-4 where it says this:

SERVICING COMPONENTS INSIDE THE WASH TUB
Removing the Inner Feed Tube and
Lower Spray Arm

Then on Page 21 it starts to get into detail of how to access the rest where it says this:
Accessing Components of the Sump Assembly

Jake,

As always, thank you for your response and guidance. This part is $199.. ouch! Would you recommend I replace the whole dishwasher or will this motor get me up and running for many years to come?

I'm not sure what the lifespan of a dishwasher is supposed to be, do you think it's worth performing the operation on this patient?

Thanks,

David

David,

It would probably be best to save the repair money and buy a new dishwasher, since yours is already 8 years old and you use it daily, as other parts are wearing as well.

Default Uninstall old dishwasher

Jake - It's me once again It's been many months since we chatted about my dishwasher. I finally ordered a new one from Sears which should be delivered tomorrow. I couldnt pass up their President's Day sale. I now have the issue of having to uninstall the old one. I can't seem to find anything which talks about removing it. As I didn't install the old one, I don't really know where to start. Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

David

Hi David, Welcome back.

I found a good video site that walks you through the steps to replace it:
