Default Kenmore Elite Dishwasher Thermal Fuse

I have a Kenmore Elite dishwasher, Model Number 665-16919001. The machine stopped working -- no power to unit. For the second time since I purchased this, I replaced the thermal fuse. When I turned the power back on it immediately started smoking and the fuse was burned out again!! ($25 south!!)

What I would like to know is what would cause the fuse to blow? Is it likely that I installed it incorrectly? Or is there another likely cause.

I would also like to know if I can splice in more wire to lengthen them. Between the two repairs I probably have cut off five inches of wire. (The wires were brittle and would not last long if I didn't cut as much off as I did.) Any help would be much appreciated!!

Hi Rick,

Did you install the wiring that came with it? If you didn't thats the reason why its blowing again, I've changed hundreds of these in the last 20 years, and never had to change it more than once.

They made a kit and you HAVE to change the wires when you install the new thermal fuse, instructions are included, you can order it here:

Jake, thank you for the real quick response.

What about my other question?

"I would also like to know if I can splice in more wire to lengthen them. Between the two repairs I probably have cut off five inches of wire. (The wires were brittle and would not last long if I didn't cut as much off as I did.) Any help would be much appreciated!!"

Thanks, again.

I don't know, I've never had to do that before, I suppose you can.
