Default Kenmore ColdSpot IceMaker Leaking Water

My Kenmore Coldspot (MOD 1069557622 / SER SF3444258 / MFG 08-96) is leaking water from the ice-making tray which drips into and around the ice catch pan making a bit of a mess. The water only spills over during the tray fill cycle indicating possibly a slow acting water valve or the valve is not receiving the close signal soon enough. I've cycled to water supply shutoff valve and removed supply line filter to improve pressure and verify flow but only increased the rate and quantity of water which spills over the ice maker.

Oddly enough, I first noticed a cloud-like fog forms when the freezer door is opened and continues to billow and waft about while the door remains open. This went on, off-and-on, for week or so before I started seeing ice on the back side of the cube door dispenser. Instead of going away, the problem has developed into an overflow of about 1/2 - 2 cup water per cube tray fill cycle which is captured below the ice bin in my impromptu drip pan (1/2 with filter installed, 2 cups with no filter). I suspect the fog and now the drip may be related... The ice maker is still making ice cubes (and ejecting them properly), but unfortunately, it is also creating ice sheets quite well.

Any ideas?

Hi,

The water only spills over the ice maker when its only filling with water?

If so, its possible the ice maker module is going bad, telling the water valve to stay on too long.

If the water valve was bad, it would keep flowing or dripping long after the ice maker module told it to shut off.

Thanks Jake,

Is it possible to replace an ice maker module, and if so, where and how do I get one?

Yes,

If you click here you can get one:
Icemaker control module and motor assembly

Just remove the ice maker from where its mounted on the left side of the freezer wall, it will have 2 screws on top, 1 on bottom.

Then unplug the connector that goes to it,

Then unscrew the 3 screws on the front of the module and pull out the module, but first take out the sensor metal arm from that inner notch on the other side of the module.

Then re-install everything the way you took it apart.

Default Had the same problem...

I completely removed the device from my freezer. I checked for cracks in the tray, etc. I always assumed that there was some sort of floatation device that determined water level. Much to my surprise, it appears to be timed.
I found that if I pried the white plastic cover off of the front of the ice maker, there is an unlabeled adjustment that is simply a screw that shows minus (-) one direction and plus (+) the other. When I look at the parts list, this screw is called a water level screw. A couple twists of a screwdriver, problem solved.
