I have a Kenmore (Whirlpool) 655.95802000 range.
The burners cycle on and off as if thermostatically controlled, but they are not as hot as they should be on max temp. All the surface element appear to be suffering from the same symptom. The 240V breaker is on and running cool. The range worked fine yesterday. All the panel lights and displays seem OK. I am fearful that the electronic control board may be the problem, as I can find no reference to any temp sensor for the surface elements. Is the a common wire or other item that could be the culprit? Thanks in advance, Dan |

Hi Dan,
When you have it on max, does the element stay on without cycling off? Because it is normal on your model for the surface elements to cycle on/off when its not on max. Jake

Jake,
Thanks. Nope, it cycles off and on after a while. BTW I also tried a tea kettle on HI and it won't boil water. Definitely something wrong. |

It seems that the back two are working OK. At least they boil water.
One side of front cycles rapidly after initial red glow. Other side does more or less the same, except never really glows cherry red. I can also hear a snap which might be a thermostat. I see what looks like a probe across the top of each element. Is that the temp sensor? Do front share a common ground that might be loose? Dunno, just guessing without a schematic. |

What size is the pot or pan your using on the front?
Also please double check your model#, that one didn't come up as good. Jake

Jake,
First noticed problem yesterday with a frying pan that has been working fine on that burner for several years, including the day before the problem shpwed. It's flat and overlaps the burner by a small amount. Same for the tea kettle. I last checked the burners without anything on them after your reply. That's when I saw the front ones cycling at max as described in my lasst. |

Ok, I see what happened, in your first post you had 655.95802000 should be 665.95802000.
![]() I just found something interesting in your owners manual, on page 9 here it says the element will cycle on/off even on hi: http://www.managemyhome.com/mmh/lis_...M/L0811276.pdf So, I'm not sure why yours isn't boiling on the front ones like it used too, hate to see you throw hundreds of dollars at it to replace parts you may not need. You may need to have Sears come out to see whats going on. Jake

Jake,
I certainly appreciate that thought (not wasting money). The front burners do cycle very quickly, not really getting hot. I'm going to open up the lid and see if I can find a bad connection (breaker off!). Is there a schematic you can point me to or make available? I see a probe that goes to the center of each burner element. I assume that's a temp probe wired to the connector. A pinout would be great. Dan |

Unfortunately, Sears doesn't make their wiring diagrams available online, but you should have on either inside the console, or underneath or in the back of your range.
