Default HE3 110.92826100 Gas Dryer Moisture Sensor/Not as hot

After having a "no heat" issue, I replaced the thermal fuse and we had heat again. Unfortunately I still have a problem...

When on auto dry, the moisture sensor shuts the dryer off too soon and the clothes are still wet. My wife is using the timed dry setting, but says that it isn't getting as hot as before the "no heat" issue and takes much longer to dry the clotes (especially towels and jeans)

I have double checked the entire vent and it is clear.

What should I be checking next?

Thanks!

Hi,

The main reason the thermal fuse blows out is a vent restriction in your exhaust hose to the outside of your house, I know you said you double checked the vent, but to be 100% sure, lets pull the dryer away from the wall, then take the vent exhaust off completely and let the warm/hot air blow directly out from the back of the dryer, dry 1 load and see if that solves it.

Let me know what you find.

The first time the vent was checked, my wife did it from the outside and said she got very little lint out. When I replaced the thermal fuse, I vacuumed out everything inside the dryer, including the vent inside the dryer up to where it was connected. I don't remember how much lint I got at that time. Maybe that was what caused the thermal fuse to blow.

I checked the 2nd time last night by pulling the dryer out and disconnecting the vent. I also found very little lint. My vent is all hard venting (not corregated). At this point, the entire vent (including the dryer itself) has been visually checked and is very clean. The air flow outside when running is excellent.

Although I did not run a load with the vent disconnected, I would say that I am very confident that the vent is not the issue now (after the thermal fuse was replaced). If you still feel that I must do this before proceeding I can, but I feel confident in going to the next step.

Thanks!

I would like you to do it, I hate to have you start ordering parts you don't need.

Okay, I have tried drying a load with the vent disconnected. There is no difference. In auto mode, the dryer went off after a few minutes and the clothes were hardly dried. With timed dry, the clothes dry, but take longer than they did before the thermal fuse was replaced.

What's next?

Thanks,
Stuart

Ok Stuart,

Then the problem is your thermistor, you'll need to replace it.

Here's the thermistor for your model you can order:
Manufacturer part#8577274 is RepairClinic item#1181075
8577274

It mounts on your blower wheel housing next to your white thermal fuse.

Thermostat replaced. The wife says it is working now (she uses the timed dry). The auto-dry function still stops quickly and clothes are hardly dried. I know that when I replaced the themal fuse, I checked the moisture sensor by putting my finger across it and it passed. Why isn't the auto dry function working?

Its likely the control board thats bad then if its not working in the auto-dry but in time dry it does.

Here's the control board for your model:
Manufacturer part number 8546219 is RepairClinic item number 1060737

I found a similar member with the exact same problem here, but he didn't want to spend the money for a new control board, so he's just using the timed dry only:
Duet GGW9200LW1 slow to dry
His Whirlpool is the exact identical one to your Kenmore made by Whirlpool.

I appreciate the help. At $148, I think we can used timed dry as well.

Thanks again!

Yes Stuart, had a feeling you might say that as well.
