I have Ken Dryer Series 90. The timer won't stop and the motor hums. The motor hums even if I don't press the start button. I can get the dryer to work if I hold the door switch in and manually "kick-start" the drum. The dryer will stop when the cycle ends, but the timer will continue to turn on its own and eventually enter the next cycle. I replaced the timer, but it did not solve the problem. I have pulled off the connections to the start switch and the motor still hums. Thoughts?
Thanks, Dave |

Hi Dave,
Whats the complete model# of your dryer? The model# tag is located inside the door. Whenever you have to manually "kick-start" your drum to start turning, that always means you have a bad motor. How old is your dryer? If you don't know post the serial# and I can tell you. Jake

Thanks,
This is a late 2002 model. Here's the motor for your model: Manufacturer's Number: 279827 This link shows you how to change it: changing a Whirlpool, Inglis, Kenmore dryer motor, how to remove the fan blower from the motor shaft on a Whirlpool, Inlgis, Kenmroe dryer, wiring a new motor Jake

Thanks for the motor information. Just to clarify that there is not something else in addition to the motor...would a bad motor cause the timer continue to run through the cycles on it's own? The dryer will shut down properly once the cycle is ended, but the timer will continue to run through the off cycle and into the next cycle. Then the motor begins to hum once is moves into the next cycle...this all happens without pushing the start button. It isn't the timer itself as I've replaced it?

Ok, then yes its possibly your push-to-start switch that has welded contacts(stuck closed) inside thats making it continue on into the next cycle, but usually the motor would re-start as well instead of hum, but it just may be the push-to-start switch thats just bad, its much cheaper than the motor.
![]() You will want to ohm out(continuity check) that push-to-start switch, with a volt/ohm meter, to see if its stuck closed with the button not pushed in. http://www.applianceaid.com/electric...ting_tips.html Unplug your dryer first before testing! Take 1 wire off the push-to-start switch before ohm testing it for continuity, doesn't matter which one. With the button pushed in, it should have continuity, with the button out, it shouldn't have continuity. Here's the push-to-start switch for your model you can order: Manufacturer's Number: 3977456 Jake
