Default Kenmore Elite 110.60972990

Hello everyone,
I am brand new here, just found this place. I wish I knew of it 10 years ago. Anyway, thanks in advance to all those who supply information on our fix-it problems. Heres mine:

I have the above dryer. It sounds to be running fine though it will dry for a while and then shut down for a period of time and then will start back up again. This cycle repeats itself over and over. I actually timed it the other day with just a few clothes in the dryer. It ran for almost 10 minutes on the button and shut itself off. I didn't touch it. After a cool-down period of 20 minutes it fired back up. I checked for heat and the inside of the dryer felt hot and clothes were warm too so apparently it is getting heat.

After reading some of the other posts on here I'm leaning towards a thermostat issue but I want to make sure.

Can someone please advise and let me know where to start and what to replace. Once again a big Thank You.............Darren

You have the evenheat model.

So it sounds like its either your motor relay or control board thats the culprit.

#36 here is your motor/heat relay, some models have 2 of these, check yours to see:
http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_pn...0081-00001.png
You can swap the heater & motor relay to see if it stays running. They are the identical same part. Unplug your dryer first before swapping them.

Manufacturer part number 3405281 is RepairClinic item number 528722

Here's how you get access to your inside console:

Then the console lifts out and up tilting it back on its plastic hinges.

Let me know what you find.

Jake,
I did as you suggested and replaced the motor/heat relay. You were correct in that there are two of them. I tried swapping them both out as you mentioned but my dryer still shuts down after running for about 10 minutes. It still appears to be heating fine though.

You had mentioned something possibly about the control board, what should I look for next? As before thank you in advance for expert information. Thanks.

Ok,

Then its possibly your control board, look for burned spots on it. There is no way to test it other than that.

Here's the control board for your model:
Manufacturer part number W10116564 is RepairClinic item number 1480790
W10116564

We have a special program here, all parts you order from our links we post are returnable within 30 days for a FULL refund if they don't fix the problem.

Default I removed the control board

Jake,
I just removed the control board as you suggested and am looking for burn spots. Here is what I found.

I don't see any "heavy" burn marks anywhere, however, looking at the control board the same direction it sits in the dryer I see this.

In the lower right hand corner of the unit right around station D2, D5 and D9 the board is dark brown as if it got hotter than normal. Nothing looks to be burned or melted though.

Does this sound like the culprit??? Let me know what you think now and if needed I will order the new board from you.

Thanks, Darren.

Jake,
I got the control board on time, thank you. However, I hooked it up correctly as it was before and put everything back together and plugged it in. The dryer ran fine so I thought. It ran with heat for 10 minutes and then shut itself down. This is the same it's been doing all along! I am back to square one!!! Please help me. Since this is doing the same thing as before does that really mean my control board is bad.? What do we do now and can I return the control board since it doesn't seem to be the culprit. Thanks!

Yes, you can return the control board:
Appliance Parts from RepairClinic.com - Returns

It may be the motor itself thats overheating and going bad.

Here's how to change the motor and shows how to take off the blower wheel:
part number 3395654 with this item part number 279787 A tip for changing a Whirlpool dryer motor

Here's the motor for your model you can order:
Manufacturer part number 279787 is RepairClinic item number 158
279787

Lots of times the blower wheel will be stuck on the motor shaft and you have to break it off as described here:
[FIXED] Kenmore Series 90 Dryer stops after 10-20 minutes of drying

Here is a new blower wheel for your model:
