Default kenmore series 90 agitates but won't spin

My kenmore series 90 washer fills, drains, and agitates, but won't spin in rinse or spin cycle. It would spin after we would open it and give it a "push" (hand-spin it a couple of times), but now it won't spin at all. I took off the coupler, and that looks fine (not chipped, broken, or worn). What else could it be? And are other potential problems easily repaired? Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Whats the model# of your washer? Its located under the lid.

So in rinse spin and final spin you can hear the motor running but doesn't spin at all now?

If thats the case, its likely your basket drive/clutch assembly you will need to replace.

I used to run into alot of these that did this Dave.

Yes, its quite a job to do, don't know if you want to do it for a beginner/novice.

How old is your washer? If you don't know post the serial# and I can tell you.

Here's the thread about how to access the basket drive/brake assembly:
Whirlpool, Kenmore, Roper, Estate, Kitchen Aid: Direct Drive Spin Tube

Here is the basket drive for your model:
Manufacturer part number 285792 is RepairClinic item number 1254
285792

Here is your clutch assembly:
Manufacturer part number 285785 is RepairClinic item number 2670

Ok, then you'd really want to consider looking at purchasing a new washer if you have a large family with more than 4 people in the household using the washer daily or many times a day as other parts are wearing as well.

Really? I thought they typically last 10-15 years. We do have 6 in our family, so, yes, it gets abused pretty well. Thanks for your help.
