Default [FIXED] Kenmore Elite 106.58172703 v. ice maker issue

I have been going through post on this issue on the board but haven't been able to determine my problem after trouble shooting the issue with tips from other post.

Issue: the ice maker started to make ice slow then completely quick a few days ago. Water in door still works

Trouble shooting on my part:

I tested the solenoid for the ice in the back of the the following way:
  1. unplugged fridge and unplugged connectors to the 2 solenoids
  2. held the water connector to the ice solenoid
  3. had wife press the water on the front door
  4. water went into ice trays.
  5. Determined that solenoid is working due to this.

Read the post on the IR sensor:

My sensor stays solid after opening door and letting beam connect.

According to the post on this item the board is bad if the light blinks with a 1 second delay. (not sure if it is important but the light blinks twice then delays one second when you have the door open not sure if this is the normal mode)

So now I am at a lost to determine if it is the actual ice maker or is it still a control item i.e. board that makes it work (which I have no idea where that is)

Could use some advice on which way to go next.

Thanks for the response Jake.

with the turn policy it makes good sense to order.

I'll order one today and cross my fingers as my father in law will have to install it because i will be leaving for 3 1/2 weeks on a business trip tomorrow.

Also it is probably important in the trouble shooting:

The water that went into the trays from our test froze but didn't eject. checked on it a while later and it was melted so it looks like maybe the defrost cycle is happening but the ice maker isn't running the arms around to push the ice out.

Also ordered from the link. Thanks

Yes, sounds like the ice maker has gone out, I've replaced many ice makers for this exact same issue.

Is everything in your freezer staying frozen? No problem with freezer foods/ice cream thawing?

Ok, good. Then the new ice maker should fix it.

Jake while we wait for the ice maker part to arrive I was wondering if you can help on another issue:

I was at a friends house and noticed he had the Non elite model of my fridge and i was telling him about my issue and your site.

It seems that he is having an issue where the ice in the bin (located on the door) is turning into a solid block of ice. you can see shapes of ice cubes but for the most part it would take an ice pick to tear it apart.

I am not talking about ice cubes sticking together but actually melding together to form one block of ice.

Freezer items are staying frozen and the freezer is cooling normally according to him.

weirdest thing i ever saw.

So i have the model number but not currently where i can type it and will add it later today.

any thoughts?

Ask him how old his is, if he doesn't know write down the serial# and post it here and I can tell you.

It sounds like possibly his ice maker is overflowing and leaking water into the ice bucket on the door.

That usually indicates either a bad ice maker module or the water inlet valve has a slow drip.

Jake there is an issue with the ice maker you directed me too in the link. evidently it is not the one for the fridge as it is longer then the one in there and evidently it mounts on one side of the freezer instead of across both walls.

Could they have redesigned the ice maker placement and i need other parts or is there another ice maker unit?

also do I need to tell the site anything since it looks like i need to send the unit back to either exchange for the correct unit or for a refund.
