Unhappy Kenmore Elite Trio Model 596.73502201

Yes we purchasded at Trio, And now the unit turns on, lights works, but only the fans come on. The compressor never comes on. We opened the back panel and have found what looks to be some quick fix wiring. Was wondering if you have a pic or diagram on wiring to the compressor and the overload relay. looks like relay was attempted to be bypassed. also how do i check if they compressor is shot? Can send pics of wire job if needed.

Hi,

Did you purchase this refrigerator brand new? Because the wiring should be like that from the factory.

Unfortunately, Sears doesn't provide wiring diagrams online for their models, but you should have a tech. data sheet that would show you, its usually located either in the front of your refrigerator behind the bottom kickplate grille or in the temp. control console.

No we bought it used. I found no diagram on kick plate or in temp control console. I believe another problem maybe no 134a because we depressed the refill valve and there was no 134a the came out. So will go buy 134a to fill compressor to see if that helps. We bought a new relay and plugged it in.But still does not seem like compressor is not on. Is there a way to use a multimeter to test the compressor being shot?

Hate to say it, but there's way to many problems with this refrigerator you purchased, hope you didn't pay much for it.

If there is no R-134a in it you have a freon leak in the sealed system, until that leak is found and repaired, you will have constant problems.

Yes, you can ohm the compressor for continuity with an ohm meter, but Even at that, it could read good, but can be locked-up internally.

If the new relay didn't make the compressor come on, then its locked-up and to have a new compressor installed your looking at $400-$600.

Now I should be able to go buy freon with leak detector correct? Fill and see if there any leaks, also order the relay attached to the compressor to changes it also. then will re-try again. Were can i buy a fitting to service the compressor. I have different fitting. Will ACE have it? We only paid 100. so if we invest 400 in still will be a fridge for 500 with huge space.

This is something you can't do yourself, you would need a turbo torch, silfloss & silver solder, flux, sandpaper, freon gauges to charge it properly, knowledge of sweep charging.

Do you have a refrigerant license? Which is now required by the EPA.

Not trying to discourage you, but its required by law for me to inform you of all this.

The compressor/sealed system is the only part of the refrigerator that a normal consumer can't do by him/her self.

Okay I plugged the new relays, and the compressor comes on. Tried to service compressor when I heard the freon that was being serviced start leaking just below the service port. Small crack. How much do you think think it will cost to have a service technician repair that smalll spot.

It shouldn't cost that much for a tech. to repair that leak, possibly $80-$120.
