Default [FIXED] Food freezes in refrigerator section; water dispenser and ice maker don't always work

Sears Kenmore Elite Coldspot refrigerator model 106.74206402, made by Whirlpool, freezer section on top, about 4 years old.

I am having two problems. I put them together in this single posting because I think they may be related.

Main problem: The refrigerator section is too cold (adjusting the temperature setting makes no difference) and food in the refrigerator freezes. I ran the diagnostics and they all pass. The air baffle opens and closes (I verified this by feeling the cold air start and stop coming out of the vents) and the thermistor is supposedly ok. The air baffle opens and closes all the time, even when the evaporator fan is not blowing. There is a ticking sound all the time coming from inside the refrigerator section.
I also notice that in the freezer there are frozen water droplets on the ice maker. All of the above symptoms have been happening for about a week.

Also a problem: The water dispenser does not dispense water. This has been happening for about a month. This has happened in the past every couple of months, and then it seems to fix itself. When it happens, the ice maker also does not make ice. The solenoid hums and the light goes on when I press the water dispenser lever. My guess is that the supply line is frozen somewhere. In the past when this happened I replaced the water inlet valve but that did not fix the problem.

I have replaced the air baffle twice in the past couple of years because it broke, and I put in the aluminum piece fix for the defroster tube freezing up in the back of the freezer.

Thanks for your help. I would be glad to post pictures or provide more information.

Hi,

Your control board is bad, you'll need to replace it, that will solve the water freezing problem as well.

Here's the control board for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 2304146

Its #4 here:

Default problem is almost solved

Jake,

Thanks for your advice. I installed a new control board yesterday, and now the refrigerator temperature is normal (40 degrees), and the fridge is much quieter, with no clicking noise. The water dispenser is still not working, though. When the dispenser lever is pressed, it hums and the light goes on, but no water comes out. Do you suggest just waiting a couple of more days for any frozen blockages to unfreeze, or should I unplug the whole fridge for a while, or is there some other reason the water dispenser isn't working? The ice maker also is not working.

Thanks.

Yes, it sounds like the water line may still be frozen. You can take the crisper's out and you should see the water line tubing, you can get a hair dryer to warm the tubing up and the water should start flowing again.

Thumbs up frozen water line was the problem

The water line that is coiled above a plastic piece mounted to the ceiling of the refrigerator section was frozen. A minute of heat from the hair dryer, and now the water dispenser works fine. Hopefully the ice maker works too.

Thanks very much for your help.
