Default Kenmore dryer 11066612691 issue

A couple of weeks ago, I started having problems with the above very similar to the one in the thread below. Additionally, while on, the dryer has a much higher pitch than it normally does. It also sometimes won't start up again until it's cooled down for a spell. From this thread as well as a few other related ones, it looks like the motor is on the way out:

Dryer model 110.66512692 problem

Mention was made that in the above thread that it might be wise to consider the purchase of a new dryer rather than replace the motor as other parts might also be near failure. Considering a new Kenmore 7.0 cu. in. dryer is around $400, does it make economic sense to be pro-active and replace those parts along with the motor or would it be better to just buy a new one? TIA...

Also, if it does make sense to buy a new dryer rather than repair this one, does anyone know what the 60 series capacity actually is? I called Sears and they had no idea....

Basically all dryers have the same capacity, except for the compact miniature dryers.

How old is your dryer? If you don't know post the serial# and I can tell you.

Thanks for the prompt response. Serial number is MG4301735. I believe the previous owner purchased it in 1996-97....

Thanks, Its a 1997 model. Yes it would be to your adavantage to replace your dryer rather than repair it since its past 10 years old.

Nope, no idea, like I said above all are basically the same capacity, except for the compact miniature dryers.

Kemmore has a 5.3 cu. ft dryer and a 7.0 cu. ft. dryer with the only difference in their external measurements being the larger capacity one is an inch deeper. 43 3/8 x 29 v 28 vs. 43 3/8 x 29 x 26) The dryer I've got is 43 3/8 x 29 x 25 1/2. FWIW, not sure how the manufacturers calculate capacity but I measured the inside of the drum (25" diameter, 18" deep) and it works out to about 5.1 ft. So I guess the smaller one would work for me.

Thanks...

Yes, I checked the sears site and I didn't see the 5.3. It started at 3.9 and then jumped to 5.7 and up.

The most common size is the 7.0.

They never used to measure dryer capacity by cu.ft.

But since the front-loaders washers came out about 10 years ago, seems all washers and dryers now have a cu.ft. measurement.

My mistake, No 5.3, I meant 5.7. Anyway, I see the power cord for dryers is sold seperately. Is it possible or even advisable to use the power cord from the current dryer for the new one?
