Okay, I've got a couple of problems. I've got a Kenmore (model # 110.96374210) dryer that just wouldn't start one day. Someone told me that it was probably the timer. Is there a way to test the timer? I have a multimeter, if it can.
If the timer can be tested, here's where my other problem begins. My teenage son, in an effort to help ole Dad out, removed the timer and didn't mark what wire goes where and there's only 12 or 14 wires! I know some of them should be marked by color on the timer itself but there are more wires than markings. So, if the timer tests GOOD, I need some help figuring out how to reconnect the timer correctly AND what to look for next. Thanks! |

Hi,
Sounds like your teenage son would make a good appliance tech. The pay is good once he gets a couple years under his belt. ![]() But the first rule to learn is always make down on paper where the wires go once removed from the timer. ![]() Unfortunately, Sears doesn't make there wiring diagrams available online, but you should have a wiring diagram in the console. The timer contacts should have color coding letters Like R would be red, B brown and so on. Its likely your thermal fuse when a dryer is just dead like that. Pull your dryer away from the wall, then Unplug it, then take off the back access panel and you can ohm it for continuity or take the wires off and jump it, use alligator clips or electrical tape to tape them together, just for testing, DON'T RUN IT THAT WAY FOR A CYCLE IF IT WORKS! Here is a photo of the back of your dryer without the back access panel on: #5 is your white thermal fuse. Here's the thermal fuse for your model in case you need to order it: Manufacturer's Number: 3392519 The main reason the thermal fuse blows is air flow restrictions in your exhaust hose that goes to the outside of your home, lint build-up over the years effects the air flow, also go outside and check your dryer vent, that can clog up too. Let us know how it goes. ![]() Jake

Thanks, Jake. I tested the thermal fuse and it was bad. I replaced it but still no go. I made an attempt at reconnecting the wires to the timer (based on the markings on the timer itself) but I'm not sure if I've got it right. There are more wires than markings. Is there anywhere that I can get info on how to wire the timer up properly?
