Default Kenmore Elite Ice Maker Not Working

I have a Kenmore Elite SxS model 106.56699501 and the ice maker has stopped working. There was no water in the ice maker so I checked to see if there was any ice stuck in te tray and did not find any. I used a blow dryer to verify there was no ice in the water inlet line. I tried adding water to the tray and realized too late the fingers? were in the down position.

After the water was frozen I took the ice maker out (one screw) and using hot water removed the ice. I reinstalled it and after about 30 minutes the fingers moved upwards.

There is still no water and it has been 24 hours.

What is my next step?

Hi,

Lets first check your optics, read this thread:
[FIXED] Kenmore & Whirlpool Ice Maker LED Blinking Codes & Online I/M In-Door Repair Manual

Usually when I find the ejector arms down in the ice tray, then 9 times out of 10 its the ice maker assembly thats bad.

Complete icemaker assembly

Manufacturer's Part#: 2198597

Let me know what you find.

Default Results of Optics Test

I opened the Freezer Door and the Red LED blinked twice and then had a long pause. Went like this at least three times.

I pushed the flapper down and the LED stayed on.

I pushed the flapper down and the door switch at top and the light went out and the LED went out.

Make sure I did not confuse you the fingers are sticking out of the ice tray.....they moved 15-20 minutes after I reconnected it Sunday. They were down in the ice tray covered by ice.

Ok, yes, but if its still not making ice, are the fingers still rotating when the ice maker cycles now?

Default Fingers Rotating

I can't tell....they always seem to be in the same location....pointing outwards at about a 45 degree angle. Is there any way I can tell if they are rotating. They did once at least.

You can manually start the ice maker.

Short T & H with an insulated piece of wire ( 14 gauge) with the ends of the wire bare approx 1/2" to run the motor, as seen here:
http://www.applianceaid.com/icemaker-modual.html

Before you jump the T & H you need to unplug your refrigerator for about 5 minutes first!

Then plug it in, then jump T & H while holding your freezer light switch in and also while holding the flapper on the left side wall closed, you can use tape to hold it for you.

Then leave the jumper wire in T & H for about 15-20 seconds, after you see the gear moving.

Give it up to 90 seconds for the gear to start moving once you put the jumper wire in T & H.

Default Shorting T&H

Make sure I have this correct.....
I unplug fridge for 5 minutes
I already have the ice make out of the fridge as I can't get to T & H
I then set icemaker on top shelf
I then plug it in and as soon as it is unplugged I short T & H while the two switches are held down (flapper and light switch)
Then leave the jumper wire in T & H for about 15-20 seconds, after I see the gear moving.
Give it up to 90 senonds for the gear to start moving once I put the jumper wire in T & H.

No, don't put the ice maker back in its place, just plug the electrical connector in, and then use the jumper wire.

Default T&H are shorted sucessfully

I did not put it back in its place.....I did sucessfully short T&H....

I did it and the ice maker does work....it did one rotation (a lot slower than I expected....about 60 sec/full rotation)
Halfway through the second I removed the wires and the fingers kept rotating and stopped in the up position......
The Red LED blinked at a regular rate while it was rotating
The ice maker itself appears to be working.....so far

Good job, did water flow into the ice maker towards the end of the cycle?

Let me rephrase that: while the ice maker was out of place while you tested it, did water come out of the black rubber fill tube that comes down from the freezer ceiling?
