Exclamation Heard a loud pop, Kenmore 790.9621 burner stopped working

I'm presuming that a heating element broke. How do I unscrew and lift the ceramic top to inspect the non-working burner? And do you have a part number for, and links to where I can buy a replacement element? The burner that bit the dust is the left front one.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Your missing 4 numbers after the "1" at the end of your model#. The model# tag is usually located at the bottom of your range on the leg frame once you pull out the bottom storage drawer.

Thanks,

You need to unplug/turn breaker off to your range first.

Then if you look under the front lip you should see between 2-4 screws. Just remove the screws, then the whole glasstop lifts up. You may need someone to help you hold it up while you remove the front support bracket#26 here:

Once you have that bracket removed from the glasstop, you can change the left-front element.

Here's the left-front burner for your model:
Manufacturer part number 316224201 is RepairClinic item number 1196951

Default diagnostics

it's been a while. and a hectic thanksgiving. thank goodness for pre-cooked dinners. hope you enjoyed yours.

i've lifted the top and looked at the burner. there wasn't any obvious damage. is there any way to determine if it really is the burner that needs to be replaced? like continuity testing (which i imagine would be problematic on a metal element with high resistance) or something that i could measure with a cheap multimeter?

Yes, you can do a continuity test on the element with an ohm meter on the RX200 setting, normal would be 0-50 ohms, if you get no reading at all, then its definitely bad.
