Question Kenmore Dryer 90 Series - Timer Assembly

My Mom just got a dryer donated to her with a problem. The metal rod that connects to the dryer timer (part#3976576) and the control knob is somehow broken off. Part of it is still in the timer, and the other attached to the control knob. What I want to know is will we have to replace the entire timer just to get that little metal rod thing?? We haven't opened the console up yet to see how it is, but wanted to check here first before we really dive into it. The Sears website doesn't give much on the assembly itself. The dryer seem to be in really good shape otherwise. This is my Mom's third dryer in 2 years, and since she's on disability, I need to make sure this works for her without spending the equivalent just to get her another dryer. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Is it broken at the base of the timer? If so, there wouldn't be much you could do about it, except get a new timer.

If its kinda broken halfway, then its possible to "rig" something to make it work at least.

Default Kenmore Dryer 90 Series - Timer Assembly

Yes, it's broken off the base of the timer, there's no way we could even attempt to get it out if it was even detachable to begin with. I don't know whether it's good to just replace the timer (to see if this dryer even works) or just look for something else for her.

Yea, thats a hard decision. Timers are about $50-$120.

Lots of stores like Home Depot, Lowe's, Sears usually have a promotion for 0% interest for a year on new appliances. Just new regular dryers with no bells or whistles are below $200.
