Kenmore Elite electric dryer no heat...
I have a Kenmore Elite electric dryer that is about 3 years old. The model no. is 110.62982101
Dryer operates and runs fine but there is no heat.
I did a search on this board and went to the appliance aid site and did the checks specified there:
house breakers good and on
240V to dryer
continuity check ok on:
power cord
thermal cutoff
thermistat
Thermal fuse
thermistor
heat element continuity ok, checked ohms also in spec, heat element is not broken grounding or otherwise
Blower vent, screen, exhaust etc all clear and blows hard and clean
I also put the washer in a diagnostic and all control switches checked out, timer also advances.
The control board looks good with no signs of burns or water damage etc. There is no signs of loose wires, corrosion or otherwise anywhere in the dryer.
I am at a loss at this point. Did I miss something? Before I call a tech to come out I figured I would check here to see if there is anything else.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

240V to dryer

thermal cutoff
thermistat
Thermal fuse
thermistor
heat element continuity ok
Heat relay, motor heat switch, selector switch, timer contacts....as a test only, join the 2 heavy wires together on the heat relay.

Thanks Jeff for the response. I did as suggested and the heater element did come on and glow red hot for just a little bit then shut down. I am assuming that it did this since it got too hot and the thermal protection kicked in and shut it off? I assume that this means the heat relay is bad and needs to be replaced?

Either bad relay or no power from the board to operate the relay.

If the dryer is apart or partly apart the poor/improper air flow could allow the safety to shut off the element.

Thanks Jeff it was the relay. I went to the parts store and the guy there said that this particular relay is problematic. He did not have a more stable alternative so I may be replacing this again in 3 years. For now the dryer works and family is happy.
