They suggested that this particular model was not "well made" and that I would do a lot better buying a Maytag Epic Z for $675 after rebates...
Can you offer an opinion on their opinion?

Hi BB,

Yes, thats true.

Unless you have the time on your hands to take your washer apart and fix it, I'd recommend the Maytag Epic Z as well.

Default Bearing Seal install

I am in the middle of replacing the washer tub including bearing and seal. I have the bearings in but am unclear on the install of the seal. It doesn't seem to have any place to sit/attach. I am wondering if I put the bearing in to far. I assume the seal should 'attach' around the lip of the bearing but I don't have an 1/8 of an inch to hold the seal. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If I remember correctly, the inner bearing seat in far enough for you to install the seal... I actually had to gently use a rubber mallet to install the seal.

Check from the hole in the outer bearing if your inner bearing is seated correctly. Between the two bearing there should only be a flat metallic cylinder, if you have a depression between them then your bearing is not seated correctly.

I've used copper grease around the contact point of the shaft and the seal to reduce wear and improve sealing. I don't know is that was the right call though.
