Default Sears (Whirlpool) Side-By-Side Similar Problem -- Freezer cycle cold/hot

    Model Number: 106.59502990
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: More than 10 years

I have a Sears (Whirlpool) Side-By-Side with similar problem. I can tell the freezer side get "warmer" sometime. The tell-tell sign is ice-cream will get soft, then it seems to melt and re-harden again. I just put in a min/max thermometer and hope to catch what is going on. It is a 106.59502990 and it is about 10 to 11 years old.

BTW, I am new to this. I just post this on the wrong sub-forum...

The first thing I would check is your condenser and condenser fan.

Take the bottom grill off in the front, next to the floor, it just snaps off, pull hard. Open both refrigerator and freezer doors first. Then get a flashlight and look at the condenser coils and if there clogged with lint/dirt/pet hair clean them, use a vacuum then blowing them out with compressed air or air compressor helps alot too.

Then pull your refrigerator out from the wall, then take off the lower back access panel, and see if your condenser fan is turning good.

Also, in your freezer section, take some food out so you can see the back panel inside your freezer. Do you notice frost build-up on it?

Also is the fan in your freezer running?

Everything below cleaned and double check the panel behind the freezer. No frost, fan motor runs. With a Min/Max thermometer, the fridge side maintain temperature at 30's and only up/down a few degree. Freezer side can go from -5 to 3x degree. Meat stay frozen. Ice cream become soft at time. It is probably doing that cycle once 8 to 12 hours.

Hi Jake, just FYI, Rick on another thread suggest the Defrost control board as first try... I am talking my wife into letting me attempt to fix it first. I really don't want to buy a new fridge yet.

    Any additional advice are appreciated...
