My Sears Kenmore Washing Machine makes a loud noise from underneath when it starts to spin. After a minute the noise stops and the spin continues as normal. the noise appears to stop when the water is gone. I checked the pump but it appeared ok.
The only time it makes the noise is at the start of the spin cycle. I took the water pump off and looked in it and it appeared to be clear. Then
I saw something that made me think it was the Drive block so I am trying to replace that. I have the washer down to trying to get the inner tub out but am having difficulty doing so. There appears to 4 spring loaded catches at the bottom of the center shaft of the inner tub. I tried depressing those but am still unable to remove the inner tub to get at the drive block. How do I get the inner tube out? Guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I really appreciate the info - I finally got the inner tub out - I had to take a block of wood and a hammer and tap - it was just frozen. I did replace the drive block. Also when I got it apart, one of the little plastic dogs that move was broken so I replaced all four of those. When I got it all back together, it still makes the noise when it starts to spin. It is fine in wash - no noise. The noise is sort of like a hammering noise and It stops after it spins for a short time (Maybe a minute or so). I will look at the coupler next. Is it possible the problem could be in the Clutch that drives the basket?
