    Default kenmore elite not cooling

    Model Number: 253.44303400
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 1-5 years

I have to go out on a Kenmore elite 253.44303400 side by side, It is for a friend who lives far away so I wanted to be prepared for possible problems. The complaint is not cooling, they do not see frost on back wall of freezer, and do not hear freezer fan running. They believe they can here something running in the back but it does sound very quiet. I wish I had more but I don't.

    Any ideas?

    Main control board?
    Inverter board?

Yes, sounds like the control board is malfunctioning. Its usually located under the refrigerator, so take off your bottom front kickplate grille and get a flashlight or droplight then you should see it.

Here's the main control board for your model you can order here:

when I arrived unit was not plugged in, so I plugged it in and started by going to the back, I found compressor and fan motor running. although, these compressors with the inverter boxes are still a little strange to me, it did "sound" normal.

I then removed back wall in freezer, evaporator fan was running, only the first pass had frost on it, I have to assume the compressor is bad or freon charge is low. also it looks like a compressor was installed after unit was build due to signs if a torch being used after it left factory...

Ok, then yes, I agree it sounds like a sealed system problem then.
