    Default Not exactly heating

    Model Number: 790.97432801
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 1-5 years

I used the oven a couple of days ago, and it worked fine. Today, I put the roles in and let it sit for 10 minutes. It did not heat up. My husband tried all of the different option (bake, broil, convection) and none of them worked. He left the oven on for 30 minutes and it eventually heated up to 114 degrees. What I would like to know, is what is wrong with it? Next, is sear parts the cheapest place to buy the parts? My husband is pretty handy and can fix just about anything, but he has never had to fix an appliance before. I just want to make sure we aren't buying parts we don't need.

Does the top burners still heat fine?

If so, then its likely your clock oven control board went out, very common on this model.

Here's the clock oven control board for your model you can order here:
Oven Control Board 316462878 Order now for same day shipping. 365 day return policy. RepairClinic.com

You will need to disconnect the power and pull the unit out. Once you can access the back, you will remove the back panel covering the back of the clock. Once removed, you will access the screws securing the clock to the control panel. Remove the screws from the clock assembly. Remove the wires, one at a time, and install them onto the new clock assembly as you remove them from the old clock. Install the new clock in reverse order once the wires are connected.

Default No, it does not work

The top burner does not appear to work. It takes 30 minutes to get the oven to 114 degrees.

Ok, then that sounds like you have a voltage problem to the range, or your terminal block where your power cord hooks up to it has a burnt wire connection causing only 120 volts to be supplied to your range instead of 240 volts that it needs to make the elements heat, seen that many times.

First check your breaker to the range, all 240 volt breakers have a dual breaker, one side may be tripped.

If thats fine, then pull your range out from the wall and unplug it, then remove the back access panel and check your terminal block.

Here's the terminal block for your model:

OK, I am going to take over for my wife now. Can you tell me how to verify that what you are saying is correct? I am curious to know if the wire that is burnt is going to show on the outside. The reason I ask, is that I was unable to find any burnt wires. Also, I connected the multimeter and found that there was only 120 V coming out of it, but then again there appears to only be 120 V going into it as well. I checked the breaker and it is fine. If there is a possibility that I can talk to you over the phone, while I am looking at it, that would be much easier than logging into the forum and waiting for a response.

Ok, Is your wife Teresa that started this thread?

Sure you can call me, but I'm not in the office today and I'd rather not post my personal cell phone number.

    Call me Monday 541-747-7651.

From your voltage reading you should be getting 240 volts across the 2 outer terminals on the terminal block where you power cord connects to it.
