Question Leaking Kenmore 253.57188601 (seems to be condensate or defrost drip)

    Model Number: 253.57188601
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 1-5 years

First post at this forum, so be kind ;-) lol

We just moved into a new home a few weeks ago. All appliances we "inherited" are Kenmore. Our current problem is with the side by side refrigerator (253.57188601).

Main point of concern is an intermittent leak or condensate drip that seems to be happening near the front right corner of the fridge (freezer side) where a yellow tube meets a white tube leading to the water dispenser. There is no water connected to this refrigerator and we don't use the dispensers at all. We are unsure of where these tiny leaks of water could be coming from. I just pulled apart the connector tonight and discovered that when I pressed the water dispenser lever, a small portion of water came out of the yellow tube into my gatorade bottle. Where is this water coming from with no water source? I've read for almost a week on the internet trying to find solutions, I've read to clean the fridge of lint (done) I've read to check for blockages in the drainage tubes (don't know where they are, but doesn't seem to be the issue).

Does anybody have ANY ideas where this water is coming from or how it can be stopped? There is no water inside the fridge, there are no other moisture problems anywhere else. When I unscrewed the water filter cup, it was half full, so I emptied it.

Bottomline, every 5-7 days there is a splurt of water on our floor that's coming from some place I cannot figure out. All I know is it's where the two tubes join.

    Thanks in advance!
    Bryan.

Thats very odd Bryan, I really stumped myself on this, unless its just leftover water when It was hooked up to a water supply.

Leave the connection undone for a day or two so it can dry that water out, get something to catch the water in though.

The water supply is still sealed off and was clearly never used by the previous owners. Could it be a drainage issue or would that happen more often than every 5-7 days? I'm really stumped on this too. I'm guessing something is happening when it goes into defrost mode, but I don't know.

We also have a noisy condensor fan motor, rather the vibrations caused by the motor. It vibrates the metal casings and I have to keep nudging it into a different position or else it will make a loud grinding noise. Maybe I can just pack it with some extra foam. Leaning it slightly to either side eliminates the sound.

If I could solve these two issues my wife would be thrilled.

Yes, I agree, but this is a very unusual problem even I haven't run into before, so its best to get Sears to come out to see whats going on, I wouldn't know where to begin to tell you where to start looking from just being on this forum here.

Np, thanks for your help. I did empty the water filter cup which was 3/4 full... I've checked it a couple times since yesterday and there's barely a drop in it now, maybe that was the source. The dispenser is also not spurting out any water when I push it in. I'll see how it goes and next time it leaks (hopefully not) I'll contact Sears.

Appreciate your efforts on this forum.

I had a guy come out, said he fixed it, it leaked again yesterday.. urgh. Why can I not even find the drain tube on my model? do I have to remove the entire back panel? It has to be a blocked drainage tube somewhere, because every 8-10 days without fail, we end up with a pool of water beside our fridge (freezer side). Funny thing is, most of the pool is outside the fridge area, it seems to be dripping right along the very side of it.

Sears sent a guy out, but if I cannot recreate the problem he said, it's hard for him to fix it. Big help he was.

EDIT: I've opened up the back of the fridge. I'll check all the tubes myself. How do I know which color is for what? I see yellow, white, green, beige. there is a green tube running down the back of the fridge and that looks like the drainage maybe? Which one should I be checking for blockages? Thanks!

Well... this is the triple solinoid water valve inside the bottom compartment I just found today. haha. Even with 99% certainty that this was causing our defrost leak, I phoned up the parts shop to order it, and they said, "that water valve is not causing your defrost problem, so I can't sell this to you." LOL... I just said, "it's broken, it still needs to be fixed right???

No clue, I've contacted my lawyer who dealt with the purchase of this home to see if we can bill the previous owners for this. All appliances were warrantied to work on possesion day, a broken piece as shown below, should NOT be in the fridge at all. Someone had to physically break it (accidentally or not) and put it back in knowing that! If this STILL isn't the part causing our defrost condensate on the floor then I'm baffled and a couple repair guys are baffled too who've come to look.
