Fridge shutting down completely

Sears Kenmore
Age:
6-10 years
Fridge keeps shutting down after 24 hours or so... will power up after a short period.

So you mean it will stop running after 24 hours, then long does it take before it starts running again?
Its either a stuck cold control thermostat or defrost timer, I've seen both happen in this model before.
#21 is the cold control thermostat, #23 is the defrost timer:

If it happens again, Underneath the console#17 is a hole that you can turn the timer with a screwdriver clockwise and see if the refrigerator starts running again, if not, then its the cold control thermostat thats bad.

Actually after I discovered it off, unplugged, waited 15 minutes or so, re connected and it ran... checked the next day mid afternoon and it was was completely down again.. I will do this procedure and get back..

Yes, when you notice it off do what I mentioned above and keep us posted.
