Question New Kenmore Elite Freezer making noises. Sears Item# 04628092000 | Model# 2809

    Model Number: 253.28092805
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: Less than 1 year

I just purchased this freezer new and turned it on a couple hours ago. It is now cool and I was getting ready to put food into it from my old freezer. When I open and then close the door, I'm hearing sounds. It's not quite a squeal and not quite a tone. It has 3 different pitches. Kind of weird. Is this supposed to do this? I hate to move all my food from my old freezer into and this new one not work and lose the food. The sounds aren't prominent to think they are normal. Anyone have any idea?

The sound is more like a whistle in three tones. I think it goes from higher to lower.

Okay. It was going up three tones then back down three tones. Now that I moved all the food into it, it is much better. Can barely hear the one tone when I open it. Still wonder if it should do that.

    Hi,

Yes, its likely your hearing the fan motor sound which is normal.

Read the model# from the tag inside the refrigerator: Help Me Find My Model Number - RepairClinic.com

Model number is 253.28092805. I'm not hearing the whistling as much now. It sure is different than the freezer I replaced. When I close this new one, it sounds like a vacuum noise for a few seconds after it shuts.

I was trying to use a corded freezer alarm on it to monitor the temperature, but where the cord came out must have been affecting the seal too much. It was getting water and ice build up inside where the cord went out. It is frost free. Once I removed the monitor it isn't doing that. I just ordered a wireless monitor. I had used the corded one for a long time on the old freezer.

The sounds are just so different with this new unit that I wasn't sure they were correct.

Yes, sounds like just the normal sounds.

Here's your owners manual, it explains the sounds on page 12 and 13:
