Default Kenmore Washer Stops During Rinse Cycle

    Model Number: 110.22442100
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: More than 10 years

I have a Kenmore washer that is nearly 10 years old (I just went back and checked, and it will be 10 in September) and I've never had a problem ... until today.

I put a load of clothes in and when I came back to check on it, it was in the Rinse Cycle (between Rinse and Spin), and had stopped. I opened the lid and it still has a lot of water in there.

I moved the knob around and tried to get it to start again. It worked on the permanent press cycle, and started the rinse mode again, but after 2-3 minutes it stopped. I even had the lid up and watched it spin for 15-20 seconds, so it seemed to work properly, it just won't finish.

I unplugged it and tried on another mode and the same thing happened.

    Any advice?

You had the lid up and it was spinning? It shouldn't have been. Did you have anything pushing in on the lid switch when you did that? Like a screwdriver?

It sure sounds like the lid switch is the culprit.

Here's the lid switch for your model you can order here:

I had the lid up and it was in the rinse cycle, with the middle cylinder moving the clothes back and forth. I thought I'd opened the lid before during that mode and it kept running.

It hadn't gotten to the spin cycle part yet. I know in the past I have opened it during that part and it will stop.

I didn't have anything pressed into anything while I was doing it.

But are you saying it won't go into the spin cycle because the lid switch is defective?

    Yup, but you said:
I even had the lid up and watched it spin for 15-20 seconds
It shouldn't be spinning with the lid up.

Sorry I should have been more careful with my original words. I should have said moving. It won't spin at all.

I'm going to get a lid switch and see if that does it.

    Thanks.

    Ok, I understand now.

Then yes, its likely the lid switch.

    Keep us posted.

FIXED! Thank you so much. I wanted to get the part quickly so I went to a Sears Parts Outlet Center here in Nashville, and the guy said they sell a lot of those parts.

The video made it so easy to fix.

I can't say thank you enough.
