Kenmore Washer makes knocking/clanging noise during spin
Brand:
Sears Kenmore
Age:
6-10 years
I ran this appliance for a friend and noticed banging/clanging sounds during spin cycle. I would naturally assume this may be a bearing of some type. I did notice in another thread (diff. model #) that this could be other factor(s). Any/all help is appreciated.

We need to start with getting the correct model number. I need your model number to look it up. Read it from the tag on the machine: Help Me Find My Model Number - RepairClinic.com

The model number on the tag is 22992 ? Did you want the smaller numbers ? That will make it 110.22992101, type 111 Sears/Kenmore Elite. I hope that fills in the blanks.

That works. Run it in spin cycle with the cabinet off and see if you can get a better idea where the noise is coming from. The two white plastic pieces on each end of the console will pull off. Remove the screw in the bottom of each end cap and fold the console back out of the way. Disconnect the lid switch connector and the two large metal clips holding the cabinet on and lean the cabinet forward and pull off. You'll need to temporarily bypass the lid switch. If the noise sounds like it's coming from under the outer tub, it could be the clutch or basket drive. Besides the noise, does it spin OK?

I'll remove the console, run it and report back. As far as the spin, when I heard the knocking, I opened the lid and it appeared to be spinning. Thanks for your help.

Alright. After some time off, I've made it back to my friends house. Pulled back panel and it spins great. As it comes off the cycle or interrupt it by opening the lid it makes a banging noise. The drum keeps spinning, but the screw stops turning. Don't know if that is what's supposed to happen. Thanks for your assistance.
