Default Kenmore Gas dryer 60 Series - smell in drum

    Model Number: 110.97565210
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: More than 10 years

My dryer has a rubbery stinky smell in the drum portion when used. I cleaned the lint areas out and still have it. I would like to fix it myself, if possible. Any suggestions / solutions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Look and see if anything is melted over the holes on the left side in the drum. Are you doing any painting or remodeling in your home?

Thank you for responding to my posting.
I did look inside the drum, from the clothes loading area and found nothing unusual. Looks clean and free of anything that I could see. I most always run the dryer on it's lowest setting to dry clothes and use the auto setting, not the timed setting. I did notice that the drum has about a 5 inch 'bend' in it at the lip, where there is a very small, minor gap between the inside and the outer, where something might get lodged, too. That was clean, too. I have not been doing any remodeling. Did do a bit of oil based painting upstairs, but that smell is gone, and the dryer still smells. I am now running it on high setting, empty, to see what it does.
    Any other suggests are welcome.

The smell might be gone but probably not the chemicals in the air. Did you first notice it right after painting?

Turn it on air fluff or no heat and see if you can still smell it.

Painting smell has been long gone and still have the smell in the dryer. The smell came after the painting, I believe. Smell is strongest when wet clothes are dried, as the smell spreads to the clothes. I will try the Fluff, no heat and see what I get. Will post once after that. tkx

    No heat = no smell.

After the chemicals from the paint are gone so will the smell.

I decided to try to 'burn' the smell out by running the dryer empty, on it's highest setting for about 70 minutes. Once done, there was still a hint of smell, but not like before, which as promising. I then added a small load of towels to dry, and 'wahalla', the smell is GONE.
Maybe I eliminated the vapors that way? I have a lint-free and smell free dryer.
Thank you for your technical support!
