Default Kenmore range - error code f9

Kenmore 30" slide-in glasstop electric range/oven
Model # 790.46353401

I tried using the self-cleaning feature for the first time yesterday. After kicking off the self-cleaning, the display read "dr", beeped several times and the "door locked" indicator flashed. After several seconds, the display read "F9" and continued beeping at a faster rate. Holding the "stop/clear" button stops the beeping temporarily, but it then goes though the same cycle again and gets stuck at "F9".

I've tried resetting my circuit breaker, but that does nothing.

I imagine the oven door lock is the issue (the door is not locked), but I don't know what parts to replace to fix this or what to do to reset the oven.
Thanks in advance for any help.

F9 on your model says to check the wiring to the door latch motor assembly, Its located in the very back of your range:

Also check the rod that goes into the motor cam, I have seen those jam up.

Unplug your range first before opening the back access panel.

Default shorted wire found

Thanks so much Jake.

I took off the back panel of the range and noticed right away that a black wire leading away from the door lock/latch motor had shorted out against the metal frame. There was a small black soot mark where the wire had made contact.

I cleared the wires from the frame and flipped on the circuit, but the range still goes through to the F9 error.

My question now is whether there is any way to tell if the motor is blown? There appears to be an inline fuse (small yellow box in this picture http://www.repairclinic.com/referral...=1265&N=918167), so I assume that would fail first?

If I installed a new motor, would the stove reset itself or is there something else I would need to do?
Thanks in advance,
-Peter

You could ohm that motor out for continuity of that inline fuse.

But a new motor should clear that F9.
