    Hello all Please help,

My Kenmore front loading washer (Model 417.44102300) does not drain and does not goto high speed spin cycle. I think this is all because of the drain pump. Here is what I did so far.

    1. I took out all clothes and removed water with a bowl (could'nt get all of it).

    2. Unscrewed the front lower plate to take a look at inside.

    3. I could see the drain pump. I repeatedly sequezed the part (shown in Fig 1, don;t know what to call it) to see if there is any thing clogged inside. But found nothing. I also observed as I sequzed, the water is coming back into the drum, I interpreted this as nothing is clogged between the pump and the drum.

    4. I removed the outgoing plastic pipe that is connected to the pump (not the the side connected to the drum). As I removed it remaining water came out freely which I collected into a plastic bag. This told me that nothing is colgged on any side of the pump.

    5. Now I recall that the drainpump was not making any kind of sound when I did a test load, which means that the drain pump itself had to be bad.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE VALIDATE MY DIAGNOSIS and let me know what should I do next. Also how do I test the moto itself and make sure that its bad (possibly by using a multi-meter? never used it so far..)

Thanks a lot for your time....

    Hi,

Did you hear a humming sound from the drain pump when it was in spin?

You can test it by putting you hand on the drain pump while its in the spin cycle, if you feel it vibrating and the impeller inside not turning, then either something is stuck in the pump, or the impeller bearing is shot.

You can take the drain pump out of the machine to check it throughly. Its just held in by 2 5/16's scews.

These are notorious for getting things stuck inside like coins, even though you have a coin trap!. Fortunately, it can be separated into two halves. Remove the whole pump (two screws into the machine base). On the white piece, there should be a couple of tabs which can be GENTLY pried up to allow it to twist off for examination of the impeller. The picture appears to be a newer design which has a screw in the back to hold the two halves from separating. If its free spinning and you're getting voltage to it at the right times, then its new pump time. If so, don't throw away the piece from the old one which gets screwed to the machine base - the new pump may not come with one!
