Default kenmore microwave 721.62629200 fan stops running during cooking

We have had this microwave for around 2 years or so. Recently, the fan that runs while cooking stops in the middle of cooking. Or sometimes it doesn't start at all when the microwave starts. We can get it to start up again by hitting the underside of the microwave (while running) or simply by opening and closing the door to start it again.

Is there anyway to fix this? It sounds like the fan may be sticking or something. Also, we think that it is still cooking even though the fan is not running. But will this burn out the microwave eventually?

Thanks!

Yes it will.

Probably/possibly new fan time. Power to the fan motor and no go = bad motor. No power = control or wire issue.

My husband took another look at it and he now thinks that the fan is okay(it looks like the fan is the same one used for the exhaust fan and that seems to work just fine). He said he can hear the relay switching on and off while the microwave is running and thinks it's the switch now. Does that make sense? Is that cheap/easy to replace?

It is.

The fan is operated by relay(s) on the smart board.

The control board is fairly easy to replace....but usually not cheap.
