Default Kenmore Model 596.50692001 condenser fan

Hello there:

I have this 2001 model Kenmore refrigerator recently is acting up. The compressor will work and the right side panel (outside) is getting really hot. I have to "shake" the refrigerator then the condenser fan will kick on. Or, the compressor will continue work until it shuts itself off (self protection?). Can anyone tell me what's wrong here?

Thanks in advance.

When the condensor fan motor will not run, see if it is getting power or not. A fan motor getting power but not running needs to be changed.

Condenser fan motor

Default Condenser fan

Thanks for your reply!

I assume that I should measure if there is any voltage on the motor using a voltimeter, right?

Further, I suspect if there is a device that sends signal to the fan has some problem, say a thermal couple somewhere. My theory is that if the thermal couple has defect, then it could not send message and activate the motor.

I will try to see if your suggestion will fix the problem.

Thanks again.

Correct....check for power there.

Compressor and condensor fan come on and run at the same time...if the compressor is running but the condensor fan motor is not running...the device sending the power there normally -should- be ok.

Default Thanks Jeff

Jeff1:

I checked the wiring and you are right! The fan should be on if the compressor is on.

I didn't pull the wire off the connection. If I order the motor and change it myself, I just pull the connectors (to the motor) off or I have to cut them? Is it easy to change?

Best regards,

Depending on what motor is sent and what motor is in the unit, both may apply...many today have male-female style connectors or wire spade ends that will just pull off. Years ago we always have ot cut the wires and marr connect them back together, very easy and not polarity sensitive.

For the most part, yes.

Tips for this job are here

Default Would it damage anything

Jeff:

I am going to order the motor from the website you provided. Is the model showed exactly what I want?

Further, it may take a few days before I could change the motor, the refrigerator is working OK but the left side panel (outside of freezer) could get really HOT. Would this damage the machine? Do I have to cut it off or it's OK to run a few more days like this?

Let me know.

Thanks
