Hello - I have a Kenmore Elite side by side refrigerator which I believe is made by Whirlpool/Kitchenaid. The icemaker is getting water into the ice tray, and cubes are forming in the tray. However, the cubes do not appear to be falling out of the tray into the door mounted ice bin. They just sit there in the ice tray.
Here's a somewhat long-winded description of the problem: The icemaker is hooked up to a reverse osmosis (RO) filter, and was running reliably for about a year on the RO system. I recently had to change the filters on my RO system, and this caused a drop in water pressure to the icemaker when the RO tank was flushed during the filter maintenance. I believe this drop in pressure caused the water to freeze in the water fill line. I shut off the fridge and used a syringe to inject warm water into the water fill nozzle to melt the frozen line. I then let the fridge sit for a few minutes (unplugged from the electrical outlet) then plugged the machine back in. I peeked under the ice maker door to confirm that the tray had filled with liquid water. I then checked later and saw that there were cubes forming (the water was freezing). At some point later on, I saw that these cubes were sort of standing on end. They looked as if they had been partially slid out of the ice tray so they were standing on one end. I then checked again, and now it looks like the cubes have slid back into their tray and they are no longer standing on end. No cubes have tumbled over and fallen into the ice bin. They are all at the bottom of the ice tray. It's been about half a day since I flushed the system. This is the second time that I flushed the system. I did the same thing 2 days ago and the same thing occurred - cubes formed, they stood on end, then they descended back to their original position and no cubes made it to the ice bin. Any ideas on what might be going on? I read the owner's manual and it said that it could take a day or two for the system to get going. However, is this true if the ice tray already has cubes in it? Anyway way I can diagnose the system to see if something else is wrong? I looked at the flashing LED on the inside of the freezer on the right hand side and the red light blinks twice, then waits, blinks twice, then waits, etc. like it's supposed to. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cynergy |

R O system hooked up to a ref will cause problems as the pressures from the systems usually fall below the minimum specified by the manufacture of the refrigerator. Frozen fill tubes small hallow cubes and jamming of the icemaker. When the pressure is too low the water will not fill all the cavities, so the thermostat in the icemaker gets too cold cycling the icemaker before the cubes have a chance to freeze To minimize the problem shut the icemaker off when you change filters in the R O or anytime you use enough R O water that the pressure falls .
