Machine has slowly had issues for example, clothes need to spin once more to drain all the water out. Hoped it was the belt. Past couple of weeks, washer has stopped at rinse and spin with heavy loads. Lightened the load and machine would finish the cycle. Replaced the belt today. Machine will either spin or run a load to rinse and spin, then it stops. If I wait a bit, I can finish the cycle. Something is getting overheated or burning out I'm guessing.
The washer is older and I'd like to narrow down potential cost. What can I expect it to be so I can get estimates on repairs? remembered a little while ago it would sound an alarm before it stopped...like the load was off balance. I would pull a couple of things out and it would run fine. Now it doesn't sound an alarm, just stops. I go turn it off, let it rest and then turn it back on to finish the load. The machine makes a grinding/purring sound during spin cycle. It always stops now when the washer is full of water ready to drain and spin. Just shuts off, but I hear the timer buzzing. I give it a few and turn the timer to the next step to finish the cycle...It is belt driven, and I also remembered that in the beginning the issue was during spin cycle so I thought it was the belt (which we replaced), but now it's stops when the tub is full the secondbeforespin...I checked again and as long as I let it rest halfway through cycle, it will finish smoothly with no smells or loud clunking noises. Minor clunking during spin... |

Hi,
If you can post the model# that would help us. The older belt drives had water pumps that the pulley on the pump would just wear out and lock up over time, that could explain some of the burning smell. The timer could be wearing out as well if you say its buzzing. Clunking during spin could be the gearcase starting to go out. May be better to save your money for a new washer, then to fix all the things starting to go out after 20+ years. ![]() Just my opinion. ![]() Jake

Thank you for responding...model # is 82374800...I was hoping to repair something relatively inexpensive while I save up for a new washer. Since it technically still works, I thought maybe I could help it hold out.
I appreciate your advice. Thanks again. |

Okay, the washer works when the tub is light. Example...It will stop when the water fills to medium load. I can sometimes get it to spin and drain if the tub only fills to small load and I take the clothes out.I'm getting the impression from reading other issues that it might be narrowed down to a water pump problem, but what would it have to do with the weight on the tub? There is a humming when the machine is on (but not spinning or agitating) that sounds like a sewing machine getting ready to move the needle. If I play around with the weight in the tub and turn the timer, it may sometimes fill up with water, sometimes agitate, sometimes spin, and sometimes drain. I know I need a new one but need this one to work for another month. Any suggestions?
