Our kenmore over the stove has worked perfectly since purchase some 7 years ago. Over the past year, the door has shown some "play" up and down and it is erratic starting after closing the door before it will start cooking. If the door is pushed up a little it will run fine and I even created some small plastic wedges to elevate the two latches about a 32nd of an inch and that works. They tend to fall out so they are not a good fix. My question is: can the door be adjusted anywhere at the hinge point to correct this.
Thanks for any advice in the right direction.

There is no adjustment of the door hinge that im aware of.

Sounds like the door and hinge assembly is worn and causing the slack, thus causing the microwave not to start properly.

The door/hinge assembly is very expensive.

Since its about 7 yrs old, maybe better to purchase a new microwave.

Unless someone else on this forum knows of a way to adjust the hinge.

Lets see if anyone replies.

Jake

Thanks againg, Jake.
I'll wait and see if anyone else has a solution. Meanwhile, I know I can come up with something now knowing that the door can't be adjusted.
When I find the answer, I'll post it.
Regards,
P

Sorry, I should have included more detail.
It's a Kenmore Spacemaster Microwave.
Stock # one of the following group:
89940,89941,89942,89950,89951,89952.
I found that if I cause the plastic latches on the inside of the door to be elevated just a touch, the unit operates fine and compensates for the play in the door (up and down). My latest fix is to tape a small piece of cardboard on the top pf the latch most likely allowing it to make better vertical contact with the oven mechanism. It ain't pretty but it's a temporary fix and beats buying a new unit just because the door has too much play in the hinges.
I hope this gives a better picture and thanks to everyone on the forum for taking the time to help me out.

G'day,

None are really model#s as a Kenmore model# is like 123.45678910 or 123 45678910

**Stock # one of the following group: 89940**

This one may be 721.89940490

721.######## is a Goldstar/LG built Kenmore.

Remove power, remove top grill and if needed remove the bottom ( some bottoms will unscrew and just roll down ).....see the hinge screws/bolts.....these can sometimes be loosened to adjust the door and then retightened.

Wow,
Thanks for the visual aid.
I'll let you know if I have any success with the door.
Model number is: 89942490
I found the # inside the door.
Thanks again.
FWIW, the tape thing on the latch works fine also.

Jeff, a question:
I found that I can access those screws on the door hinge.
There seem to be three screws,(at least on the top hinge) 2 smaller and one larger.
Any more details on which one is the height adjuster if that is the case? We're talking a very small adjustment of about a 16th of an inch or so. At least, that's about the distance gained with my temporary home made latch wedges. The wedges work but tend to flatten etc.. so I'd really like to get this working correctly and get my family to stop bugging me about it. Of course, it usually works for me but they have a way of coaxing out the evil side of machines.
Any help appreciated.

None are. If the holes they go through are oblong I usually loosen the screws and lift up slightly on the handle side of the door and hold it there and retighten the hinge screws to holdthe doorin place when you have lifted it to. We do a similier repair on a refrigerator door, when the freezer door has sagged a bit and one end is now closer to the fresh food section door.
