I bought a new Kenmore frig/freezer about a month ago for my garage. It was working fine until the temperature (live in Virginia) dropped pretty low for the first time this season. The frig works fine but the freezer will not click back on and all my food started to thaw. I had a service technician come out and he told me that the freezer on this model will not work until the temperature warms up again. That seems crazy to me. All my neighbors have frig/freezers in their garages and all of them work fine regardless of the outside temperature. None of them have special refrigerators that are geared for a garage. Plus, it's not like we're at the North Pole. Outside temperatures dropped to 30 degrees or so when the problems started. Any ideas? No one at Sears seems to have a clue.
Thanks. |

Not all refrigerators are insulated the same and not all condensers are in the same place. Your cold control is monitoring the temprature of the refrigerator section and is designed to turn off the compressor to keep things from freezing in that section. If it stays cold long enough outside in your garage the cold control thinks its cold enough and won't turn the compressor on. Out here the temprature hasn't gone above 18 for the last week and I'm getting alot of calls with that same problem.

Thanks for the response. Any suggstions on what I can do to fix the problem? Or, do I just need to get another frig/freezer? If that's the case, do you have any recommendations on ones that are less likely to have this problem?
Thanks, Steve |
