Default Kenmore Trio 596.76519500 low evaporator fan

I've got a Kenmore Trio 596.76519500 that's about 14 months old (2 months past the 1yr warranty) and today the temp in the fridge suddenly went up to about 60 degrees and hovered there. After reading around this site I vacuumed out the back and cleaned off the condenser coils which while dirty, didn't seem to be affecting much.

The vent in the fridge section (that goes to the freezer) is open.

I took off the back panel in the freezer and there was a light frost over the fins. The evaporator fan was not turning at all, and I flicked it lightly with my finger and it started spinning slowly.

I assume this fan should be spinning much faster since it is what moves cold air up to the fridge? Does it just need to be replaced or am I looking at a more complicated electrical problem that will probably require a tech?

Thanks

Hi,

Yes, your evaporator freezer fan motor will need to be replaced.

Here is the one for your model you can order:
Freezer (evaporator) fan motor

Great, thanks for the fast reply Jake! Is there any way to jury rig the fan to keep things cool over the weekend or is it a lost cause?

I don't know of a way to make it work till you get your new fan motor, I recommend buying about 10-15 lbs. of dry ice, that will make it stay cold for several days.
