Kenmore HE3T Elite Washer, Pulley and Belt
Hello
I have a Kenmore Elite HE3T Front Loader ( 110.42926200 ). It makes a very loud noise in the final spin cycle. ( I have read many of the post regarding this problem.) When I opened the back of the washer, I noticed a lot fine rubber dust that was created by the belt rubbing up against the tub. I noticed that the pulley was loose, or had a lot play in it in all directions. I removed the Nut and removed the pulley because the pulley looked warped, but after placing it on level ground the pulley appears to be not warped. When I tried to put the pulley on I can not get it to stay tight, in other words, there is a lot of play in the pulley. I does not appear to me I can tighten the nut anymore without causing damage. Should there be play in the pulley(fly wheel), or should I be able to tighten the nut so there is no play in the pulley?

There should be no play in that pulley, sounds like you may have a bad tub bearing, how old is your washer?

Hi Jake
Thanks for answering.. THe washer is just over 5 years old. The problem first started at as bad horrible sound in the final spin cycle, like many of your post. As I stated above, I took the back off, and saw that the belt was disintergrating and I noticed the pulley wheel was loose and wobbly. So I removed the pulley nut, cleaned up all the rubber gounds, and tried to put the pulley back on, but I can't tighten the pulley nut to get the pulley to stay firm; there just too much play. I suspect after tightening the nut I should be able to secure that pulley wheel, but it is not happening. If it is the bearings as you suspect, I most likely will need a new machine. Is there anyway to prove that it is the bearings? I am to rotate the axle that pulley wheel sits on, and it moves freely without noise. Thanks again for the quick reply

Yes, try that, and also open your front door of your washer and move your tub up and down & side to side to see if you have alot of play in your tub like that.

OK, I have tried as you suggested. The play in the tub seems to be normal . It rotates fine without noise. The fact that I cannot get the pulley nut to secure the pulley wheel is frustrating, its as if there should be a washer to fill the 1/16" gap. Should I just go for overtightening this nut? Can the threads from the axle exceed the nuts threads(i.e. stick out past the plastic stopper in the nut?)

Without actually being with you looking at it myself, I can't really speculate about overnighting that pulley, but you can try.
