I bought a Kenmore Gas Oven (Model #790.71054402) about a year ago and it worked well until a couple of months ago. I turned the oven on to pre-heat and realized ten minutes later that nothing was happening. One day it works and the next day it doesn't.
The broiler doesn't work either. If I could figure out what was wrong I'm sure one of my son's could fix it but I don't even know where to start. I would appreciate any and all suggestions |

Intermittent problems like this are extremely hard to diagnose.
Possibilities: Oven thermostat, oven igniter. Jake

I think maybe my first post wasn't very clear. The problem isn't intermittent. When I said that one day the oven worked and the next day it didn't I meant that it died all of a sudden. There were no problems until it just stopped working. I've tried turning it on several times since it died (guess I'm hoping it will fix itself) but absolutely nothing happens. I remember when it was working that I would see a light (not the oven light) towards the back when I turned it on and this light (I'm assuming it's the electronic ignition) isn't there now. The broiler quit working the same time the oven did. I don't know if any of this helps.

If you want to fix it yourself, you will need a volt/ohm meter to start testing parts for continuity and voltage readings.
Its still going to be either one of those 2 parts I linked you to. If you turn on your oven and you get 120 volts at your oven igniter and your igniter won't come on, then thats the bad part. If no 120 volts at the igniter, check for 120 volts at your thermostat. Jake
