Question Kemore elite gas range - oven light stays on all the time

I am sure this is a common problem but I could find a solution, so I am posting this query in this forum ...

I have a kenmore elite gas range, model number 790.79012102, and the only problem is that lately the oven light stays on all the time.

The control panel seems to be working - it beeps every time I press the button, and all of the other controls are in proper working order.

The switch/knob on the inside of the oven door seems to work - when I press it in - it goes in and makes a slight sound. When I release the switch, it makes another sound and the knob 'pops' back out to it's normal position.

Everything seems to be okay, and yet the light stays on all of the time.

Anyone have an idea as to how I get the light to turn-off?

Hi,

Either the switch contacts are welded closed, wire is pinched/burnt somewhere keeping power to the light or the electronic clock/control is sending power to the light all of the time.
Each would have to be investigated.

Question I chose option three (do nothing), it worked but need a real fix ...

Okay, I chose option three ... do nothing ... and eventually the light went off on it's own. This happened a few times over the last few weeks.

Of course, when I open the oven door again or push the oven light switch again, then the light goes on and once again I cannot turn it off.

With this information, can I conclude that it's a problem with the electronic control pad? What's the solution? And what are my options?

Please advise,

VK
