Unhappy Kenmore Dryer 110.76891800 won't stop running

Hey, the old thing works perfectly except that it will not stop running unless I open the door. It starts right up and drys well when I press the "Push to Start" button, but the timer never moves no matter what mode it is in.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer advice on how to fix this thing and where to go to get any parts I may need. (I am fairly competent with electrical and mechanical stuff.)

It sounds like your timer is bad.

Thanks much Jake; that's what I figured but it sure is nice to get your expert opinion before ordering a replacement part.

Glad to help, and if the timer doesn't solve the issue, you can return it for a full refund within 30 days when you order it from that link.

What else could it be besides the timer? Is there something else I should check before I order a new timer? Thanks again!

I should mention that I do have a good DVM in my toolbox if it would be helpful to test voltages at the timer terminals, but I would need directions as to what to look for. Thanks again!

With the Sears models, they don't provide a schematic online to help troubleshoot it, but from what your saying is wrong with your dryer, I would suspect the timer being bad.

Default Dryer

Jake, couldn't that be the PTS button stuck closed also? I can see the timer being bad since it isn't advancing, but if the dryer runs unless door is open that would also indicate a bad PTS button wouldn't it?
Thanks for any insight!!
Jon

BigJon, I don't think the PTS button is stuck closed in this case because when I stop the dryer by opening the door, if I then close the door again, the dryer does not start running until I press the PTS button again.

I'm not having any luck finding a replacement timer though so I may be SOL. (They do not have it in stock at the link provided by Jake.)
