Kenmore 70 Series Dryer Won't Start
I've read many of the threads here, and have an idea of what might be wrong with my dryer.
I have a Kenmore 70 Series, Model 110.68702894. The dryer has given me issues before with running for about 20 minutes then stopping. Once I clean out the vent hose and back of the dryer, it usually runs fine. I had to do this a couple of days ago, and once again the dryer was running fine. Then all of a sudden the dryer would not start, no matter the setting. If the timer is left on (set at 60) it will count down, but will not start.
From what I've read, I believe I need to replace the thermal fuse but still need to get down there and check it out. I also have a feeling I need to clean around the motor, to ensure it's not gunked up.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi,
You might want to check the door switch also.

The door switch seems to be okay. I'm not positive about that. I'm guessing that the door switch is okay, since the only time that the timer will count down is when the door is shut, or the door switch is depressed.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, it sounds like it may be your thermal fuse.
You can open your dryer and jump the thermal fuse wires and see if it comes on. Unplug your dryer first before opening it.
Here is a help link to get access to it:

Thanks Jake!
Now being a novice at most of this stuff, would you explain "You can open your dryer and jump the thermal fuse wires..." I'm not sure how that is done. Thanks!!

Yes, its very easy, pull your dryer out away from the wall then unplug your dryer, then take your back access panel off.

#5 in this photo is your thermal fuse. If you have an ohm meter you can test it for continuity, or if you don't have an ohm meter, you can take the 2 wires off of it, then put those 2 wires together with electrical tape, then plug your dryer in and see if its starts running.
Here is a help link to test with an ohm meter:

Jake,
It is the thermal fuse. Just curious... Can I safely run the dryer without the thermal fuse? I currently have it bypassed, as you suggested. Just didn't know if it was safe to do that until I get the new fuse.
Thanks!
